About Me

My name is Kris, and I'm not an extreme couponer. I don't spend 40 hours a week couponing, and no stores here in the Chicago area regularly double coupons. Sensible saving may not bring in big TV ratings, but it helps me save money for my family. My husband and I have been married for 10 years and we have two small children. I spent a decade in educational publishing until I was laid off in 2009, and now I work part time in a related field.
We have always been big savers. My husband and I paid off $25,000 in student loans in less than two years. Both of our cars were paid off about a year after they were purchased. We put about half down both times. In 2004, we put down $40,000 on our house.
Currently, my husband is attending law school, so our budget is tighter than ever. To make things even more challenging, my husband began eating a low-carb diet in January due to a strong family history of diabetes and some worrying bloodwork.
