The bride relented again and we did not make the cakes! However, that left me with skills and tools to make a cake, so I made myself one for my 31st birthday.
Started with plain old boxed chocolate cake.
Then I mixed in the color, and kneaded it for about ten minutes.
Then I rolled out the fondant and rolled it around my rolling pin. I then crumbcoated the base of the cake with a simple chocolate buttercream.
I carefully unrolled it over the cake, then smoothed it down.
After cutting off the excess, I placed a cake circle on top of the base and inverted it. Then I filled the cake with buttercream. I covered the top of the cake with chocolate ganache, lifted it into place, and decorated with the fondant flowers I made months ago. I think it turned out pretty nice!

Beautiful! I love the cake and I think you did a great job! I'm disappointed that the bride didn't use them, though. They would have looked really lovely. (I read your blog, I just don't get a chance to visit often). Chris
